Chapter 20

When Demecca returned to St. Louis, he was in a good mood. He and Joi had made some nice moves and money up in Detroit, and everything had gone smoothly. They’d made it back safely, and without trouble, so his attitude was lighthearted, and the first thing he did when he got home was hit Charm off with some crazy numbers. Demecca sat so much cash before her that she initially thought that he wanted her to count it up or stash it for him. But surprisingly, he affirmed that the money was hers – to keep. Charm was completely stunned! The look on her face was exactly what Demecca had hoped to see. He wanted Charm happy that she belonged to him, because foreal, he was happy that she was his.

Demecca felt like he could afford to take care of Charm, so why not on a higher level? This was always a vision of his for any woman that he ended up official with. At this moment in time, for Demecca, Charm was the one. He wanted her to go shopping for the baddest clothes – bags –shoes – whatever she wanted. If she wanted it then he wanted it for her, and the way he came home and cashed her out made that plain as it could get. “That’s yours!” he exclaimed, proud to drop them dollars. Demecca told Charm to get her hair redone in a new color for him, and he instructed her to purchase whatever she wanted for their crib. Charm was blown back by this, but Demecca was blown back by her. The way that Charm had the house sparkling top to bottom when he’d arrived – he felt that she deserved it. Flat out. The girl had the bedroom sheets and covers and pillows all extraordinarily fresh, and the aroma of scented candles burning, plus cooked food on the stove – that turned him on. Charm really had welcomed him back righteously. She had it all lined up with a hug, a kiss, and a homely home. Demecca was pleased with all of that, so he hit her off generously, with no shame. He’d made more than enough loot on his trip so he was ready to splurge. His mindset was clearly on spending. Jubilee was written all over his face.

All of this… made it the hardest thing in the world for Charm to break the news about the robbery… but she had to. So she did. She broke down and told Demecca that Kendall had been robbed – of everything.

That did not go well.

Within the hour, Demecca and his homeboy Ras were parked outside of Kendall’s house in an all black Lincoln Navigator. The same rented vehicle they’d driven out of town with Joi.

“Nick, that’s my cousin, chill. I’ll be right back,” Kendall said for the hundredth time. She was frustrated beyond measure because of the situation, plus Nick was trippin’, and Choyce was crying. Kendall felt her sister’s pain, but please.
